Our School Community

At Matahui School, community is at the heart of everything we do.

Parents, grandparents, caregivers, and extended family are encouraged to take an active role in school life — from excursions and camps to assemblies, community fundraising, and working bees.

Our Community

Matahui School has a strong parent and grandparent community with a common goal; we see education as an investment in our children’s future.

Open Door Policy

At Matahui, we view feedback between home and school as central to our students’ success. Our teachers have an Open Door Policy and regularly meet with our families. We provide formal feedback at our Three-Way Conferences once a year to discuss a child’s progress as a family.

Fundraising and Spirit

Fundraising is an important part of Matahui School life. Families contribute to exciting fundraising events, Christmas markets, theatre shows, BBQs, movie nights, and parenting workshops. Our community is full of resourceful and talented people.

Lifelong Connections

Each week, our community comes together at our school assemblies to gain insight into that week’s learning, with many of our families staying afterwards to connect and chat. Our school events, such as camps, Boat Day and Athletics Day, bring our parents together and give them the chance to get to know each other while supporting their children. Many parents volunteer on the BBQ or in the water; our families play an active role in making these days memorable.

We have a supportive alumni network, with many friendships formed here lasting for years beyond their time at Matahui.

Strong Governance

Our Board of Trustees is comprised of a cohesive group of elected parents and alumni, providing clear leadership with a disciplined business model. We have used this governance model since the school was founded in 1986.
