The Matahui School One-Day Forest School programme is ideal for homeschool children or those attending alternative schools whose families want to include more nature-based, outdoor learning in their child’s education.
Guardians of the Forest
Our Guardians of the Forest programme provides children with the opportunity to spend the day in nature at an off-site forest location, exploring the natural environment with an experienced forest school teacher.
Throughout the day, children engage in free play as they problem-solve, build, create, and explore, while learning how to protect and preserve the natural world. Designed for primary and middle school students aged 5–12 years, the programme offers a fully immersive, screen-free learning experience that builds curiosity and confidence outdoors.
Our young explorers spend the day immersed in nature, rain or shine, building makeshift shelters, exploring meandering streams, and overcoming challenges. The programme supports the development of independence, self-esteem, and essential life skills such as teamwork and problem-solving.
The Programme Includes
- Nature as the classroom – learning takes place in authentic outdoor environments.
- Regular, ongoing sessions held in natural spaces.
- Learning-led exploration where children follow their interests.
- Holistic development supporting social, emotional, physical, and technical skills.
- Risk-aware practice that helps children learn to manage risk and understand their physical and mental limits.
- Qualified facilitators with each session carefully planned and connected to previous learning.

* Eligibility Criteria for Multiple-Student Discount
- Multiple-Student Discounts are available to families who enrol two or more children
from the same family into the One-Day School Programme in the same term. - The 2nd Student Discount is applied to the second student’s fees only,
not to both students. - The 3rd+ Student Discount is applied to the third and subsequent students’ fees only,
not to the first and second students.
Nature-Based Wellbeing
We have observed that time in nature improves attention, memory, self-awareness, and emotional regulation,
while reducing hyperactivity, anxiety, and stress.
Research supports what we see every week: free play in green spaces enhances focus, working memory, and
overall wellbeing far more than time spent in built environments.
