Leadership Programme

Supporting our emerging leaders to make a difference.

Our leadership programme inspires students to make a difference through community initiatives while helping them to develop the skills to become leaders.

Developing Future Leaders

Matahui School’s Leadership Programme empowers our Year 7 and 8 students to become confident, capable leaders. Through hands-on experiences, community initiatives, and opportunities to serve as student ambassadors or on the Student Council,  Students develop leadership skills, self-confidence, and the ability to make a difference both in school and in the community.

The programme involves:

Certifications: Students take part in school and community initiatives to earn bronze, silver, and gold certifications.

Community Projects: Fundraising, working for charities, and building and improving aspects of the school environment.

Big Buddies: Act as peer leaders to our youngest students. Collaborate in a system that supports our values programme, share learning, join in play, participate in the school production together, and provide support during excursions.

Leadership Camps: Students participate in four camps per year with specific learning objectives that challenge and develop their leadership skills.

  • A beach and water safety camp (learn to surf, water safety, beach clean-up)Visit Lake Tarawera (kayak, swim, build relationships, learn to work as a team)
  • An extended hike (engage in physical fitness, pack appropriately, learn about hiking safety)
  • Combined camp with our Year 5 and 6 students (practice leadership, guide, mentor, and support younger students)

These outdoor experiences help our students evolve into confident, engaged teenagers who can persevere when things get tough and are prepared to try new things.
