We are delighted to welcome Elliot Needs to Matahui School. Elliot joins us this year as the teacher of Kauri Class, bringing with him enthusiasm, depth of experience, and a genuine commitment to supporting every student’s learning journey.
We are thrilled to have him as part of our teaching team and our wider school community.
Experience and Expertise in the Classroom
Elliot is a qualified and registered teacher with more than 15 years’ experience across primary, intermediate, and specialist education settings, including both schools and kura. He brings strong, current knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum and a kete full of practical, effective teaching strategies. His approach focuses on engaging students in meaningful learning and ensuring their individual strengths, interests, and needs are recognised and supported.
A Strong Foundation in Youth Development
Elliot feels strongly aligned with the Matahui philosophy that every child deserves the opportunity to engineer their own learning journey, and he is excited to help students in Kauri Class do exactly that.
Life Beyond the Classroom
Outside the classroom, Elliot has a love of travel and adventure, including completing project work and climbing several mountain summits.
Creativity and Community Involvement
Closer to home, he coaches youth football, enjoys coastal walks and bush tramps, and is actively involved in the performing arts. He has performed in a number of productions with Tauranga Musical Theatre, reflecting his creativity and passion for connecting with others through storytelling. We can’t wait to see what he’ll do with our school production!
We know Elliot will bring energy, care, and inspiration to Kauri Class, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact he will have on our students.
