The Year 8 Leaver’s Assembly is one of the most special moments in our Matahui calendar. It is always a time filled with pride, emotion, laughter, and the realisation that our oldest students are ready to step into the next chapter of their lives.
Our Year 8s have climbed their Matahui mountain with courage, perseverance, and heart. They have embraced challenges, found their voices, grown as leaders, and contributed so much to the life and spirit of our school. As we celebrated their journey, we also celebrated the values they have modelled for our younger students — kindness, responsibility, optimism, cooperation, empathy, and resilience.
At the assembly we shared stories, memories, and achievements, acknowledging not only what they have accomplished academically, but who they have become as people. Their families should feel incredibly proud of the young adults standing before them, ready to stride into college and beyond.
At the Leavers’ Assembly our Year 8’s were awarded the following trophies:
The Citizenship Trophy
The John Reyner Trophy for Aptitude for the Great Outdoors
Creative Expression in the Visual and Performing Arts Trophy
To our Year 8 students:
This is your mountain.
You have climbed it with determination, and now you stand at a new trailhead. We wish you courage as you explore new paths, confidence as you meet new challenges, and the knowledge that you will always be part of the Matahui family. Go well, be brave, stay curious, and remember the values that will guide you wherever you go.
Thank you to our teachers, parents, and wider community for wrapping around our students with support and encouragement throughout the year. It truly takes a village, and Matahui is lucky to have one that is strong, connected, and deeply invested in helping our children thrive.
I want to acknowledge the hard work, joy, and determination that has filled our classrooms and playgrounds this year. We have ended the year together, celebrating all that has been achieved and the exciting future ahead for every student.
Ngā mihi nui,
From the team at Matahui School

Thank you to everyone involved for making it an enjoyable and memorable night for our students, and special thanks to Simon and Manissha for hosting us at your beautiful home.
